Youth Week celebration brings people together
Sixty-seven young people attended a Queensland Youth Week celebration last week at the Pittsworth Town Hall.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) organised various events across the district including a Glow Party for people aged 12-25 years on Wednesday evening, April 8th.
TRC has labelled the event a great success, with an increase in attendance on last year’s Y2K Party during Queensland Youth Week.
The Glow Party was developed and delivered for young people by TRC’s Regional Youth Leaders (young people aged 14-18 years).
The night offered a range of free activities, including pizza, slushies, glow-in-the-dark face painting, a photo booth and other activities.
Organisations such as Headspace and Top Blokes came along to support the event.
Local youth group, Life Support Youth, assisted with the set-up for the evening and provided free fairy floss.
Queensland Youth Week officially began on 11th April, and is all about celebrating the young people in our communities.
TRC Community Development and Youth portfolio spokesperson, Cr James O’Shea, said this year’s line-up reflected Council’s commitment to creating opportunities where young people feel supported, valued and empowered.
Other programs delivered during Queensland Youth Week in the Toowoomba Region were ParkVibe, in which Youth Connect teams partnered with community groups to bring music, Laser Tag, Archery Attack, outdoor art workshops and a free barbecue, to Cecil Plains and Clifton.
Cr O’Shea said our young people were creative, curious and community-minded, and the Youth Week events reflected that spirit and gave them a chance to explore their interests in a safe, welcoming environment.
