Renowned musician delights school community
St. Stephen’s School in Pittsworth was filled with music, joy and faith last Thursday as students, staff and families warmly welcomed acclaimed Christian singer-songwriter Andrew Chinn for a special day of workshops, culminating in a vibrant afternoon concert.
Known across Australia and beyond for his uplifting songs that are widely used in classrooms, liturgies and school celebrations, Mr Chinn’s visit was a highly anticipated event in the school community.
His music, already a familiar and cherished part of daily life at St. Stephen’s, came to life in a whole new way as students engaged directly with the artist himself.
Mr Chinn worked as a classroom teacher in Catholic primary schools in Sydney for nearly 20 years before moving into his full time music ministry.
Across those years he has visited more than 1200 Catholic primary schools, and released 16 music albums.
Last Thursday, students participated in a series of interactive group workshops led by Mr Chinn.
These sessions provided a unique opportunity for young learners to explore music, faith and creativity in an engaging and meaningful way.
Students enthusiastically sang, clapped, and reflected on the messages within the songs, deepening their understanding of how music can express faith and build community.
The day culminated in an energetic afternoon concert, where students showcased what they had learned and shared their enthusiasm with families and friends.
The school community gathered to celebrate together, filling the space with song and energy as familiar tunes, such as Mr Chinn’s classic These Hands, were performed with new-found excitement.
Parents and carers in attendance praised the event as both uplifting and memorable.
The concert not only highlighted the students’ participation but also reinforced the strong sense of community that defines St. Stephen’s School.
Mr Chinn’s visit left a lasting impression on all who attended, and the school is looking forward to him returning again soon.
His ability to inspire through music and faith resonated deeply with students and staff alike, reminding everyone of the power of shared experiences in nurturing both creativity and spirituality.
