Record truck rollout strengthens Queensland’s frontline emergency response
The State Government is making Queensland safer and strengthening frontline emergency response capabilities, with a record 130 new firefighting appliances delivered across the State over the past year.

In the past 12 months, 103 new Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) appliances have been built, tested and delivered to volunteer brigades, alongside 27 new Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) appliances delivered to frontline crews.
These appliance deliveries form part of almost $50 million invested in the Queensland Fire Department fleet program during 2025-26.
The State Government is also securing Queensland’s future emergency response capability through an agreement with Volvo to manufacture 80 new QFR Type 2 appliances over coming years, with production expected to begin in September.
Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers Ann Leahy said Queenslanders deserved confidence that emergency services have the modern equipment they need to respond when disaster strikes.
“We’re doing exactly what we said we’d do and making Queensland safer by investing in the people and equipment that protect our communities,” Ms Leahy said.
“These new appliances are reaching communities right across the State and are part of our plan to ensure Queensland’s emergency services remain among the best equipped in the nation.”
QFD Commissioner Steve Smith said QFD worked closely with industry partners to ensure the efficient delivery of a wide range of vehicles across the services.
“QFD has a very wide range of very specific requirements when it comes to building trucks that can respond to bushfires, structure fires, road crash rescue, hazardous materials and many other emergency scenarios,” Mr Smith said.
“Not only do we have to consider the type of emergency, but also the type of terrain our vehicles will encounter.
“For example, in the past year we’ve seen the delivery of two specialised Tatra 4x4 Type 2 appliances to service the communities in Tewantin and Rainbow Beach, where we so often respond to emergencies that require beach access.“
