The little dirt patch, often being torn up by pensioners heading for the rail crossing on their mobility scooters, on King Street is being upgraded into a proper footpath by Toowoomba Regional Council.

Works began on Monday and will continue until the Friday at this stage.

The news of the footpath upgrade is welcome for Clifton residents as the town has a disproportionately older population, meaning infrastructure that aids mobility is crucial, especially around the main street, King Street.

Cr Carol Taylor said it was important for council to keep up maintenance and quality infrastructure in its regional fringes.

“Accessibility is really important...you don’t realise these little hurdles, just to cross the road. Just how much it could impact some people,” she said.

Cr Taylor said she was very grateful Council could afford this upgrade for Clifton’s footpath, not only for the accessibility aspect, but that amongst the TRC’s major projects, its important to also remind Clifton residents that they matter.
