The change of ownership was settled on Friday last week (24th July).

“Over recent months, the board and management of CCHS have sought and considered expressions of interest from suitably positioned medical practice operators,” Andrew Douglas, CCHS Board Chairman, said

“As a result of a structured selection process, we are pleased to announce that the Clifton Medical Practice business has been acquired by Dr Waseem Gazale.”

Dr Gazale’s purchase of the practice comes from collegiate local connections and interest in healthcare management.

“The fact that Dr Waseem brings prior clinic ownership and practice in rural communities, and in supporting Residential Aged Care patients, were important considerations, as was his interest in further growing the consulting team over time to offer more services to more members of the greater Clifton community.” Mr Douglas said.

The transaction includes sale of the Clifton Medical Practice business supported by a long-term lease for the premises, meaning that the practice will remain co-located on the CCHS site in the existing purpose-built facility.

As Dr Joanna Pappas and other members of the team have committed to continue, it will be business as usual for patients moving forward.

Dr Waseem plans to practice in Clifton in the near future after an initial settling period.

“I am excited to be taking on the practice, working with the dedicated team and both meeting with and being of service to members of the local community,” Dr Gazale said.

“Clifton is a special place, and I am focused on further developing the practice to ensure that residents receive the medical and allied health services they deserve.”

Mr Derek Tuffield OAM, Interim Chief Executive Officer of CCHS has expressed confidence in the change.

“We acknowledge that it is has been a challenging time for both our staff and patients over recent months as we have worked through the process, and we are grateful for the support the practice continues to receive,” Mr Tuffield said.

“We are confident this support will continue and that the community will extend a very warm welcome to Dr Waseem.”
